ROLE SUMMARY 

By joining the Bright Futures UK board as our fundraising adviser, your role will be to advise and support Bright Futures UK with all aspects of our fundraising strategy.

 

This will include providing guidance on applications to trust and foundations, stewarding major donors, nurturing corporate engagements and guide Bright Futures UK strategy on fundraising events. The fundraising trustee will introduce Bright Futures UK to relevant fundraising avenues when and where relevant.

 

The fundraising trustee will ensure Bright Futures UK has a developed and sustainable fundraising strategy, encompassing all above topics. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide oversight and scrutiny to fundraising practices to ensure fundraising is carried out in legal, honest and accountable ways.

  • Support the development of an appropriate fundraising strategy and support senior management to ensure income generation targets are achieved.

  • Regularly review Bright Futures UK’s fundraising strategy and identify gaps in the current fundraising strategy to respond to a changing context.

  • Ensure Bright Futures UK is diversifying income and spreading risk appropriately as the organisation develops.

  • Be an active champion of the organisation.

  • Contribute specific knowledge and expertise of fundraising techniques and strategies, to ensure that our activity is realistic and effective.

External Relations

  • Act as an ambassador for the cause and charity.

  • Use existing relationships, for example with trusts and foundations, to add value to Bright Futures UK fundraising income

PERSON SPECIFICATIONS

Knowledge and Experience

  • Knowledge of /evidence of commitment to the work and values of BFUK.

  • Strategic fundraising/income-generation experience.

  • An understanding of the UK charity sector, good governance, Charity Commission, Companies House requirements, relevant legislations and statutory requirements.

  • An understanding of the challenges facing small to medium UK charities in maximising income streams & donor cultivation. 

  • Experience of delivering successful fundraising operations, including statutory funds, corporate and philanthropic giving.

  • Experience overseeing a range of income streams with senior level experience in Individual Giving, Major Donor and/or Corporate Fundraising.

  • An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship. 

Skills and Abilities

  • A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to conduct the above duties.

  • Excellent networking skills, influencing and communication skills.

  • Strategic vision and good, independent judgement.

  • A willingness to speak your mind.

  • An ability to work effectively as a member of a team and willingness to take collective responsibility for the governance of the charity.

  • Ability to analyse risks and opportunities, and take a balanced approach to both.
